Training Services: The Need of the Hour!
One true measure of any society is revealed by how it answers this question: "What about the disadvantaged?"
The most essential, long-term need of the poor in Hong Kong is gainful employment: in income which will sustain them and their loved ones. When ethnic minorities, the elderly, marginalized youth, newly displaced, unemployed or under-employed workers acquire new knowledge and skills, their hope for a better life greatly increases and in their prospects improve.
Christian Action is one of Hong Kong's newest yet largest training bodies. We began offering training Services Division began in 1993. In the last two years alone we have offered over 1,300 classes, at CA's six training service centres, serving about 28,000 attendees, with a job placement rate of 70%! Our network has grown to over 30,000 employers with whom we serve and collaborate. The "Christian Action Trade Advisory Committee" receives vital input from leaders representing a wide variety of industries, ensuring the relevancy and success of our training and employment services.
New Opportunities and Fresh Starts: A Rich History
For over fifty years Christian Action has been assisting displaced workers gain new or enhanced skills to address Hong Kong's rapidly changing landscape. Extensive experience in providing job placement, income generation and vocational training programmes for refugees many years ago, has led us to consider how Hong Kong's own residents could be helped in the same way. Having served the poor for generations, Christian Action understands their needs and is able to provide a sustainable solution for the future.
The Hong Kong Government has invited CA to be a part of a strategic manpower development process in the city. Through the Employees Retraining Scheme CA also serves corporations and institutions by providing leadership and management skills and expertise learned while serving the marginalized.
We are constantly developing innovative ways to help the Hong Kong job-seeking and working community. CA Training Services Programmes have provided fresh starts and new opportunities through 9,000 classes and 150 training courses, offered by more than 200 full and part-time trainers, to almost 200,000 of Hong Kong's employees, unemployed, job seekers and employers!
SEEDing the Way!
Christian Action is committed to the growth of the whole person. Our activities are holistic in nature involving Saving, Educating, Empowering and Developing (SEED). From Disadvantaged to Difference-makers!
"And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." Micah 6:8
"This, in a nutshell, is the heart of Christian Action. We realize that to provide basic necessities for the poor, outcast and alien is only a starting point. Along with mercy, we must be prepared to personally and practically accompany the disadvantaged on the path to justice, opportunity and entry into society's mainstream.
The Training Services wing of CA is in place to ensure that those who have been disconnected from the Hong Kong success story will ultimately emerge as confident, skilled workers, providing for themselves and their families in a sustainable way. Your financial support and volunteer service will continue to provide relevant, essential training so that our students will thrive in today's workplace and beyond. Thank you for helping Hong Kong's disadvantaged to become Hong Kong's difference-makers!"
